An illustration done as part of a creative project for a mythology course in university, we were tasked with either creating a mythology from whole cloth or adapting existing myths into a new form. I went with the former but with a twist; settling with the thesis that myths and storytelling are a transformative process, turning historical events into legends that may one day enter the realm of myth. The piece reflects a possible end result of this process: A ritual born from myths (in this case, ritual combat). Based on deity-on-deity conflicts like the Titanomachy and the Vanir-Aesir War, each champion represents opposing sides of the pantheon: Blue for the realm of culture and craft, and Green for nature and the wilds.
