“Anyone who says dead men don’t tell tales obviously doesn’t listen hard enough.”
New art of my panda fanwalker, Kanerva, with a set of new threads in the plane of New Capenna (based on the newly released set from Magic: the Gathering, Streets of New Capenna) accompanied by his two serpent familiars.
Normally, I wouldn’t do a piece that’s Roaring ‘20s or Dieselpunk since fantasy (and Nordic/Celtic fantasy) holds a lot of material for me to mine from still, but the itch to make art for this plane hit me as more world-building and art was released of New Capenna. Granted, I’m still cool on the existence of the plane, but it was pretty cool to see how they remixed fantasy armour and robes in the context of close to modern fashion.
As Kanerva is centered in white and black mana, I set him as a member of the Obscura (with their faction symbol as a pin on the collar of his coat) and originally planned on having their signature camera apeture scrying magic be present on the piece, but I figured the resulting four-way lighting scheme with three sources of bright light would’ve been too much and kept it to what it looked like in the final design.
